Airtours Ski slashes capacity after millennium sales slump

Airtours Ski has become the latest operator to reduce capacity and prices for the millennium period after misjudging demand over the New Year period.

Head of specialist products Gary Wardrope said flights had been dropped for departures on December 28, 29 and 30 following disappointing bookings.

Speaking at the launch of the second-edition brochure, he said: “A lot of people who ski are senior business people who will have to stay at home to check there are no computer problems over the New Year.”

Customers booking before October 31 can save up to £200 per person on selected holidays during the millennium. Prices lead in at £409 per person for seven nights at the Velvet apartments, Andorra departing December 26 from Gatwick.

Meanwhile, Airtours Holidays managing director Chris Mottershead admitted overall bookings for the winter were proving a “challenge” but summer 2000 was selling well.
