P&O Portsmouth launches series of themed crossings

P&O Portsmouth has launched a programme of themed crossings on its route from Portsmouth to Bilbao for the autumn to increase business in the shoulder season.

They include a Country Cruise on November 2, featuring country and western music, and a rock ‘n’ roll evening of ’60s songs on November 13.

UK sales manager Paul Barringer said the themed mini-cruises help to build traffic outside the summer peak when the ship, Pride of Bilbao, has no trouble filling up. “We have a loyal following in the summer, when we are close to capacity, but we need to get the numbers up in the shoulder and winter seasons,” he explained.

The Pride of Bilbao has capacity for up to 2,500 passengers and 400 cars. The three-day mini-cruises start from £65 a person.

A five-star Celebration Cruise, with en-suite outside cabin, breakfast and three-course dinner every day, costs from £125 a person.
