Plans have been confirmed for the opening of a Disneyland theme park in Shanghai, China.
A joint venture deal struck by the Walt Disney Company is estimated to be worth £2.15 billion and has been described as one of the largest ever foreign investments in China.
The park is due to be completed by 2014 subject to planning approvals.
Disney plans to construct and operate the park which is expected to cover the same area as almost 960 football pitches, according to reports.
A Disney statement confirmed that the company has “taken another step forward in the approval process.”
The Chinese cabinet first approved the project a year ago, paving the way for the latest agreement.
The Shanghai park will be Disney’s fourth outside the US following Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong.
