Coronavirus: Central England Co-op launches food bank

Central England Co-op has announced plans for a food bank to support those affected by the coronavirus.

Donations will be collected at the Co-op’s food stores, where around half of the society’s 26 travel agencies are based.

The food collected will be used to create food parcels of around 11 items each to provide at least three days’ worth of meals.

Donations will be passed on to the society’s charity partners to distribute to those in need.

The retailer has also made a donation to FareShare Midlands to fund extra transport and staffing costs to make sure that more emergency food packages are delivered.

The society has also created an online hub with regular updates on its response to the coronavirus, details of how it is helping those in need and tips for people affected.
