Lufthansa Group expands in revised summer schedule

Lufthansa Group airlines are ramping up flights from the UK and Ireland to offer 244 weekly services to its hubs in revised summer schedule.

Carriers within the airline combineare switching their focus from short to long-term flight planning, and adding services between July and October.

They will now offer more than 40% of their originally planned flight schedule with a total of 380 aircraft.

As a result, half of the fleet will resume service by October – 200 more aircraft than in June.

The 244 weekly hub services will be available across the network by October from five regional airports, including Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London City and Shannon,equating to 212 from the UK and 32 from Ireland.

Lufthansa will also raise frequency to Frankfurt with 35 weekly flights from Heathrow in August and 14 weekly from Birmingham airport in September.

More than 90% of all originally planned short and medium-haul destinations, and over 70% of the group’s long-haul destinations will be served again by the end of October.

Lufthansa plans to resume Birmingham-Munich and Edinburgh and Glasgow to Frankfurt flights in August following by Shannon-Frankfurt in September and London City-Frankfurt in Octber.

Brussels Airlines is to serve the Belgian capital from Birmingham and Edinburgh from September.

Swiss will add 12 new European routes from Zurich and 24 new European destinations from Geneva in July. The carrier will also serve a total of 11 long-haul destinations from Zurich in July and 17 in October.

Austrian Airlines plans to serve more than 50 destinations from this month.

Low cost carrier Eurowings aims to resume flights across 80% of its network over the summer as travel restrictions are lifted.

Lufthansa executive board member Harry Hohmeister said: “Little by little, the borders open again. Demand is increasing, in the short term but also in the long term.

We are therefore consistently expanding our flight schedule and our global network and pushing ahead with our restart.

 I am pleased that we can now offer our guests even more connections to all parts of the world with all Lufthansa Group Airlines via all hubs.”
