Tobago offers visitors a relaxing, authentic Caribbean experience that is unlike any other. From its quiet beaches to its pristine Main Ridge Forest Reserve – the oldest protected rainforest in the western hemisphere – Tobago is a tropical paradise.
You can experience 260 species of birdlife, including a stunning array of hummingbirds and our national bird, the rufous-vented chachalaca. The crystal-clear waters of Nylon Pool are not to be missed, plus its diving is world-class, with the largest-known brain coral, giant leatherback turtles and hundreds of tropical fish making for some magnificent sightings.
Tobago is unspoilt, untouched and undiscovered.
Can British travellers go to Tobago?
Tobago’s borders are open to fully vaccinated international visitors.
All travellers must present evidence of a negative nasal-swab RT-PCR taken no more than 72 hours before arriving in Tobago.
Non-nationals who are unvaccinated are currently not permitted to enter Trinidad or Tobago.
Unvaccinated children can enter with vaccinated adults, as long as they can show proof of a negative PCR test. They will also have to undergo another PCR test taken between three-five days of arriving in Tobago.
All travellers must also complete a pre-departure form up to 72 hours before departure, and upload their negative result, which can be found here.

As of January 9, fully vaccinated travellers returning to the UK must take a Covid-19 test, which can be a lateral flow test, on or before day two, and fill out a passenger locator form.
Travellers returning to the UK who aren’t fully vaccinated must fill out a passenger locator form and take a Covid-19 test before arriving, as well as PCR tests on day two and day eight, and quarantine for 10 days.
Which airlines fly from the UK to Tobago?
Currently, international flights are only being served via North American to Piarco International Airport in Trinidad, where domestic connections can fly to Tobago.
British Airways resumed its service to Port of Spain in Trinidad in November 2021, and is expected to resume its service direct to Tobago in January 2022.
What can travellers expect on arrival in Tobago?
Visitors and local residents should wear masks in all public places, and wash hands regularly.
Tobago has been awarded the WTTC Safe Travels certification, and hotels and transport providers will be expected to adhere to strict local guidelines. More than 100 tourism businesses have now signed up to the Safe Travels stamp.
The islands introduced ‘safe zones’ in October 2021 which means those who are fully vaccinated can access cinemas, bars, restaurants, gyms and casinos. These establishments will operate at 50% capacity and proof of vaccination and one form of photo ID is required to enter.
Hotels and guest houses are open, and public transport on the islands can operate at 75% capacity. All recreational tours and beaches are currently closed to the public.
What’s new in Tobago?
Tobago has recently received the Unesco Man and the Biosphere designation for a large section of the northeast of the island, and achieved Blue Flag pilot status for three of its beaches.
The ANR Robinson International Airport will undergo a huge expansion in 2022. This will consist of constructing a brand-new international terminal and other upgrades including a new car park and expansion of the tarmac.
