Pan Am hopes for scheduled service revival

THE US Department of Transportation has given Pan Am permission to restart scheduled services (Travel Weekly July 19).

However, the famous airline, which currently only offers charter services, needs Federal Aviation Authority clearance before launching services.

If the FAA agrees to Pan Am’s plans, scheduled flights will start from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, to Gary, Indiana. Services will continue on to Sanford, Florida, near Orlando.

The carrier intends to begin Caribbean services to San Juan later this winter.

US agents have been told they can purchase blocks of tickets, despite Pan Am planning the majority of sales over the Internet and with direct bookings.
