Action 2000 sets sights on transport trade

THEGOVERNMENT’S millennium bug group Action 2000 is calling on car-hire companies and rail operators to prepare their computer systems for the next century.

Action 2000 is appealing to the transport industry to get involved in its National Mentoring Scheme which brings businesses together to share ideas on tackling the bug.

The action group has turned its attention to the transport industry after Government statistics showed only 62% of businesses have taken action to make their computer systems millennium bug compliant.

Action 2000 workshops include ideas on how to tackle the bug, a chance to meet a network of people experiencing the same problems and provide a certificate of attendance to prove the company is serious about becoming year 2000 compliant.

Action 2000 managing director Gwynneth Flower said: “We know that those who attend find the workshops extremely useful – satisfaction rates run at over 70%. So if businesses do one thing in the next month to beat the bug, we would urge them to go along to a workshop.”
