Arrests made after Barbados shooting

Two men have reportedly been arrested in Barbados in connection with the shooting of a British couple while on a world cruise.

The couple, named locally by the BBC as Ann and Philip Prior, both aged 59, from Suffolk, were robbed during a stopover at Bridgetown on Sunday afternoon.

Mr Prior was hit on his left side and his wife was shot in her right thigh.

Mrs Prior has been released from hospital, while her husband is reported to be in a comfortable condition.

The couple were on a three-month cruise on the ship Adonia which left Southampton on January 8 and is due back in the UK on April 3.

A Barbados Tourism Authority spokeswoman said: “We are extremely sad to hear about this.

“Instances of this nature are thankfully extremely rare in Barbados where security and safety is still one of the things we consider to be our main USP.

“We are working closely with the police to get to the bottom of what happened but we can offer reassurances that Barbados remains a safe place for locals and visitors.”
