TRAVELWORLD CLOSES SHOP AFTER ROBBERIES
Travelworld has shut its shop in Hall Green Birmingham, after three armed robberies in four months. “It just wasn’t worth carrying on. We’ve redeployed the three staff elsewhere,” said Travelworld managing director Terry Fisher.
ANKER TAKES THOMAS COOK DIRECTOR ROLE
Thomas Cook Financial Services has promoted Melanie Anker to director for commercial foreign exchange in Europe. Ankers was previously director of UK and Ireland financial institutions. She joined Thomas Cook in 1976 as a trainee travel shop consultant.
GOING PLACES DEBUTS FIRST SUPERSTORE
Going Places opened its first superstore at the weekend and unveiled plans to develop five more over the next 12 months. The 10,000sq ft Holidayworld in York has sections on two floors dedicated to cruise, late deals, summer sun and Florida. See page 6.
BA BUSINESS CAMPAIGN GIVES TRAFFIC 3.2% BOOST
British Airways’ drive to improve premium ticket sales is having an impact. Its ‘BA Popular Person’ campaign which allowed business passengers to book a free companion seat helped premium traffic rise by 3.2% last month.
RAPID ENTERPRISES CEASES ALL TRADING
Two-branch agency Rapid Enterprises, which traded as Tynedale Travel, has ceased trading after it was unable to meet its financial commitments. It had branches in Newcastle and Sunderland.
