Former British Airways senior executive Val Gooding is to join Tui Travel as a non-executive director.
She is non-executive chairman of electronics company Premier Farnell – the business previously run by Thomas Cook chief executive Harriet Green.
Gooding spent 12 years at BUPA, leaving as chief executive in 2008, and previously held a number of senior roles at BA including head of cabin services, head of marketing and director of business units.
Her appointment is part of changes to the Tui Travel board with executive director Volker Böttcher and non-executive director Tony Campbell standing down.
Böttcher, managing director of the group’s German specialist division, has been an executive member of the board for six years.
Campbell joined the board when the company was formed at the time of the merger in 2007 – prior to that he was a non-executive director of First Choice Holidays.
“His contribution to the board will be greatly missed particularly his wealth of knowledge and experience in retailing and online distribution,” Tui said.
Gooding is being joined by a second new non-executive director following Tui Travel’s agm on February 6.
Vladimir Yakushev is managing partner of Moscow-based private equity company S-Group Capital Management, Tui Travel’s joint venture partner in Russia.
Tui Travel deputy chairman Sir Michael Hodgkinson said: “We are very pleased to be able to propose Val and Vladimir as non-executive directors.
“We will have secured two exceptional replacements for Volker and Tony. They will both bring with them enormous commercial expertise in international companies and will, I am sure, contribute significantly to the board in both a positive and challenging way.”
