A fresh wave of protests in Bangkok have been sparked by the removal of prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra two days ago.

Police have fired water cannons and tear gas at protesters in the Thai capital.

Locally-based operator Diethelm Travel warned that the decision to remove Yingluck will lead to intensified protest activity within Bangkok in the coming days.

The company said it had already taken “precautionary measures” to minimise any inconvenience to its clients.

Hundreds of anti-government protesters have been holding a rally outside a government compound in the city.

A large-scale rally of pro-government protesters is planned for tomorrow (Saturday) in the Thawi Wattana district in the outer west of Bangkok.

“All visitors to Bangkok are urged to avoid protests sites and surrounding areas, political rallies & marches as previously advised,” Diethelm Travel said.

“All beach resorts and other destinations within Thailand have not been affected by the political situation and the airports and other transportation systems are running as normal.”

The company said it would continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates.
