Sabena takes off with summer discount fares

SABENA has reacted to Air France’s summer discount-fare offer by launching its own cut-price deals.

The Belgian airline has rolled out return fares of £136 from 13 UK airports, flying to 20 European destinations. Prices do not include taxes or passenger service charge. Children travel for £68.

Destinations covered by the offer include Rome, Moscow, Prague and Venice.

Travel is from all London airports and UK regional airports including Belfast, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester.

Example of prices, including taxes, are £180 to Moscow and £164.40 to Prague.

Flights are via Sabena’s Brussels hub.

During this month and August, Air France has cut 30% off leisure fares for UK passengers flying via Paris to a range of European cities (Travel Weekly June 28).

Sabena’s offer runs until August 31 for outbound flights, with returns by the end of September. Reservations, which must include a Saturday night, should be made by July 24.

n Sabena’s Qualiflyer partner Austrian Airlines has expanded its codeshare agreement with Delta Air Lines.

The move sees Austrian fly into Delta’s Atlanta hub from Vienna for the first time from October 1.

The US carrier axes its Atlanta-Vienna flights the same day. The move strengthens Austrian’s partnership with Delta following the US airline’s link-up with Air France.
