The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has updated its travel advice for France to warn of strike action at Calais port today.

In its advice the FCO said: “Strike action at Calais port on Friday 14 November may cause disruption to those travelling through the port. Please check with your travel operator before leaving for the port and follow the advice of police and local authorities.

“There are large numbers of illegal migrants in and around Calais, who may seek an opportunity to enter the UK illegally.

“Although local police patrols have been reinforced, you should keep vehicle doors locked in slow moving traffic and secure your vehicle when it is left unattended.

P&O Ferries said on its Twitter updates feed: “Industrial action in Calais has now commenced and we have only one available berth with other operators. Delays are expected.

“Passengers with day trips are strongly advised not to travel. We expect longer crossings and waiting times outside the port for a berth.”
