SOMAK is scrapping its viewdata system and replacing it with an intranet site enabling agents in its new 1000 Club to make on-line bookings.
A handful of retailers are currently trying out the new system which should be fully operational within three to six months.
Managing director Ash Sofat said:”Viewdata is too restrictive for our product. The new system is flexible and will make it easier to book tailor-made holidays.”
It will cost agents a one-off payment of £60 to link up to the system.
Meanwhile, the operator has launched its 1999/2000 brochure featuring Africa, The Indian Ocean, India and The Middle East.
Sofat said the emphasis has been placed on upmarket holidays. Prices lead in at £699 for five nights at the Royal Mirage Jumeira Beach Hotel in Dubai.
