Cumbria Travel celebrates 10-year anniversary with £1k prize

Cumbria Travel has celebrated its 10th anniversary with special offers and social media competitions during January.

The agency was launched in January 2015 by directors Leanne Miller and Tricia Rickerby, both from Whitehaven.

It gave away a £1,000 Jet2holidays prize voucher in a competition on Facebook and Instagram which attracted almost 13,000 entries.

Miller, who had previously worked at Thomas Cook, and Rickerby, formerly of Co-operative Travel, got the idea for their venture during a conversation at a hen party in 2014.

They opened their first store in Whitehaven, followed by a second store two years later in Dunmail Park Shopping Centre, Workington.

Cumbria Travel now has 27 consultants, including a four-strong social media team and online brands called Cumbria Travel Luxury Escapes and Cumbria Travel Cruise.

They are members of Brilliant Travel, part of the Barrhead Travel Group, giving them “access to state-of-the-art technology, a wide range of product and full bonding to enable us to bring something different to the high street”.

Miller said their goal is to offer “personalised and friendly service”, adding: “Despite immense challenges such as the pandemic bringing the travel industry to a halt and the cost-of-living situation in the UK, we have continued to grow and offer our customer base new experiences and a wider range of options.”

The agency has also been named Jet2holiday’s Small Agency of the Year twice.

Rickerby added: “January is our anniversary and busiest period for holiday bookings and families visiting our stores. We have had special offers and social media competitions to celebrate the milestone.”
