Airlines set to merge Heathrow operations

AIRCanada and partner Canadian Airlines will combine Heathrow operations fromJune 2.

Canadian, which was bought by Air Canada earlier this year, will move to Terminal Three from Terminal Four. The two carriers will codeshare on all flights which will lead to the end of codesharing between Canadian and British Airways.

Joint Air Canada/Canadian frequencies from Heathrow will remain almost unchanged, apart from a reduction to five a day from six to Toronto and a cut to seven a week from eight to Ottawa. Vancouver flights jump to three daily from one a day. Timings will be rescheduled across the network to accommodate existing departures.

The airlines will codeshare with British Midland to Heathrow from Edinburgh, Belfast, Leeds/Bradford and Teesside.

Meanwhile, the shake-up at Canadian has claimed its highest profile casualty with the resignation of president and chief executive Kevin Benson. He will be replaced by Air Canada’s Paul Brotto, formally senior vice-president business development, who was seconded to Canadian in January as executive vice-president and chief operating officer.
