Romanian airline Blue Air is to start its third service from Liverpool John Lennon airport next summer.
Twice-weekly flights will run to Cluj, Romania’s second-largest city, from June 6, 2016.
The airline already serves the Romanian capital of Bucharest and Bacau in the northeast of the country from Liverpool.
The news came as the airport revealed a 6.8% rise in passenger numbers in the third quarter of the year to top 1.3 million on the back of a busy peak summer period.
This means that figures have increased each month since February, taking growth to 6.2% or 3.2 million for the first three quarters of 2015 compared to the same period last year.
The increased growth is forecast to continue for the remainder of the year, with Flybe set to start daily flights to Edinburgh and Aer Lingus adding 16 departures a week to Dublin from the end of the month.
Airport chief executive, Andrew Cornish, said: “This is an exciting time for the Airport with airlines such as Blue Air recognising the tremendous opportunities available to grow their business from here.
“Over the past 12 months we have secured flights from five new airlines, announced 12 new services to 8 new destinations, bringing over 90 additional flights per week.”
