Los Angeles International Airport has won approval to build a special terminal for celebrities and the world’s wealthiest travellers.

The airport’s Board of Airport Commissioners unanimously approved plans to redevelop a cargo hanger into a suite dedicated to wealthy and famous travellers, the Guardian reports.

The new suite will allow guests to be dropped off behind closed doors, to avoid the paparazzi.

The new service will cost from $1,500 and will be up and running by next summer.

Guests will have access to exclusive lounges, catering facilities and separate security checks. When it’s time to board they will be driven directly to their plane.

According to reports, the plan for the suite promises than guests will have to walk no more than about 60 steps.

LAX airport said they believed the new terminal would bring in additional revenues of $3.7 million in the first year and $34 million over the first 10 years.

Security firm Gavin de Becker & Associates plan to roll out the service to JFK, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago and Dallas, if the initial offering proves a hit.
