Abta is aiming to raise £40,000 for charity through a ‘£1 Per Employee’ appeal.
The proceeds will go to support Abta LifeLine to help the charity continue its work supporting people in the travel industry in their time of need.
Members are being asked to donate £1 for every employee they have, or ‘match fund’ by collecting £1 from each employee and matching this with a £1 donation.
Small members might choose to round up their donation to the nearest £10.
The appeal is launched today (Wednesday) and already has the support of more than 40 companies including Tui, Thomas Cook, Traveltime World, Kuoni and Hays Travel.
Abta LifeLine chairman Derek Jones said: “As a travel community, we have the opportunity to come together and make a real difference to the lives of our colleagues and their families at a time when it’s needed most.
“It is a chance for each member company to go that extra mile for their staff, the people who drive their businesses.
“If every member, however big or small, supported our appeal, we would raise a significant amount of funding for our colleagues in need, so we hope that as many members as possible will take part.”
The appeal came as new members of the Abta Lifeline board of trustees were introduced – Thomas Cook UK retail and customer experience director Kathryn Darbandi, Tui UK ancillaries, property and customer quality director Ed Sumner and Abta finance director Carolyn Watson.
