Following on from the success of this year’s Wok Stars competition, Travel Weekly has once again teamed up with the Macao Government Tourism Office to celebrate Macao’s unique gastronomic heritage.
12 lucky agents will have the chance to win a place at a three hour baking class with champagne at the award-winning School of Wok in London’s Covent Garden where they will learn how to bake – and enjoy – some of Macao’s popular sweet and savoury pastries. The prize class will take place on Monday 20th March 2017 and includes an overnight stay in London, with breakfast, and the exclusive class where they will be personally hosted and taught by TV chefs, Jeremy Pang (founder of School of Wok) and Jonathan Phang.
For your chance to win, simply read about Macao and answer the three questions below under How To Enter.
About Macao
Just 40 miles from Hong Kong, Macao is one of the Far East’s most vibrant destinations, with a unique Portuguese-Chinese heritage.
With a journey time of approximately one hour from Hong Kong, making the combination a great twin centre option, travellers visiting Macao can fly in via Hong Kong International Airport and take the fast ferry ride direct from the airport or from central Hong Kong.
Highlights include the beautiful World Heritage listed “Historic Centre of Macao”, the Macau Tower – home to the world’s highest bungy jump – and glittering nightlife with bars, nightclubs, casinos and the spectacular ‘House of Dancing Water’ show. Travellers can relax in Macao’s southern countryside of picturesque hills, visit the Macao Giant Panda Pavilion or “shop ‘til they drop” at one of the bustling markets or designer malls.
Macao’s food is one of the highlights of any visit to Macao. With its heritage linking both Asia and Europe, its wonderfully varied food scene is renowned throughout the region.
When the Portuguese arrived in the 16th century they brought food, not only from their home country, but from all their trading stops en-route, resulting in the unique Macanese fusion cuisine. Packed full of flavours, Macanese dishes combine elements of Portuguese, Indian, South American, Malaysian and African influences with local Chinese traditions. Macao is also home to delicious Cantonese cuisine including dim sum – a time-honoured afternoon ritual in Macao, which has a reputation for offering some of the best in southern China. Or you can enjoy some of the best Portuguese food outside Portugal, washed down with excellent Portuguese vintages.
Macao is also famous for its pastelaria, or pastry shops. The delicious pastel de nata, or Portuguese egg custard tart, is Macao’s most famous snack, available from bakeries all over Macao, while almond cookies are another local specialty.
Whether your clients are looking for world class fine dining – there are no less than nineteen Michelin-starred restaurants in Macao that rank amongst the best in Asia – or delicious local snacks and everything in between, it is no wonder that no-one ever goes hungry in Macao!
