Hall of Fame prepares to honour new entrants

The British Travel Industry Hall of Fame was formed in 1995 to honour excellence and outstanding achievement by those who have played a significant part in creating and developing the British travel and tourism industry.

Organised by Kingley, the event is supported by Air Miles, Avis Rent A Car, BUPA Travel Services and Travel Weekly. It takes place at the Savoy on May 5.

New entrants into the Hall of Fame for 1999 are Sir Michael Bishop CBE, chairman of British Midland; Paul Dubrule, co-founder and co-chairman of the Accor Supervisory Board; Gerard Pelisson, co-founder of the Accor Supervisory Board; and Leonard Lickorish CBE, a former director-general of the British Tourist Authority (formerly known as the British Travel and Holidays Association).

The new members were chosen after consultation within the industry. The voting panel includes representatives from sponsors and trade associations. Last year’s members were Avis chairman and chief executive Alun Cathcart, Airtours director of international relations and corporate affairs Martin Brackenbury, Sir Fred Pontin and American Airlines former chairman and chief executive Robert Crandall.
