Factfile: Spain – Property Definitions

Property Definitions

Parador: a state-run chain of properties which were converted from historical buildings or monasteries, or are modern buildings in locations of particular beauty. The most famous parador is the Parador Aigua Blava, on the Costa Brava, which is quite a plain, modern building but is set in a stunning location and offers high standards of cuisine.

Casa or village house: a small Spanish house converted into holiday accommodation usually in, or close to, a village. These are becoming increasingly popular as clients prefer to stay in traditional Spanish accommodation rather than purpose-built villas. They usually have a small kitchen, bedrooms and a sitting room and do not generally have gardens.

Finca: a large estate or farmhouse which is no longer a working farm but has been converted into holiday accommodation. Usually set in extensive grounds in a remote location, found in the south of Spain.

Villa: villas in Spain can be anything from a converted farmhouse to a purpose-built property, usually with a swimming pool.
