STANSTED GETS GREEN LIGHT FOR EXPANSION


Stansted Airport will start expanding its terminal early next year after receiving permission to nearly double its capacity to 15m (Travel Weekly October 21). Local planning authority Uttlesford District Council approved the airport’s plan last week to allow the start of a £200m project that will provide more check-in desks and baggage carousels. The terminal will run alongside the construction of two new satellite terminals and additional aircraft stands. Work should be complete by 2006. Stansted’s current capacity is 8m.


VLM SETS APRIL DATE FOR JERSEY LAUNCH


Belgian carrier VLM is to launch daily London City-Jersey flights on April 26. The new route, agreed by the Jersey Transport Authority last week, will give the City airport its first service to the Channel Islands. VLM services will be on50-seater turboprop Fokker 50 aircraft every weekday.
