New add-ons increase rail tour packages

ROCKY Mountaineer Railtours is moving further into the winter sports and soft-adventure market with an expanded range of add-on offers to its rail journeys during December ’99.

The company is in talks with tour operators about featuring the new itineraries in their programmes. There are a further 31 options to the initial six introduced last season including activities such as skiing/snowboarding, wildlife interests, dog-sledding, snow mobiling and ice climbing.

These can all be built around the rail company’s new Vancouver-Kamloops tour or combined with the existing one-day Kamloops-Banff itinerary, to create a two-day trip.

Alternatively, a new five or six-day Vancouver city and islands’ deal with the train excursion from Vancouver to Kamloops and on to Calgary is likely to cost ú400 per person.

Rocky Mountaineer is also increasing the capacity of its premier-class GoldLeaf Service with the introduction in September of two more bi-level Dome Cars to its current four superior carriages. Facilities include galley, dining lounge and rear-observation platform on the lower level, while the upper-level Dome seating takes 72 passengers offering 360-degree panoramic views.
