National Express maps out flexible break plan

National Express is to launch its main travel brochure ‘Britain Shortbreaks and Holidays’ at BTTF.

The new programme, which replaces the coach operator’s Bargain Breaks brochure, has been designed with simpler price panels to make it easier for agents to sell. Prices lead in at ú39 for one night’s accommodation and breakfast in London including return coach travel from anywhere in England and Wales. Prices from Scotland start at ú44.

The brochure also features free child travel and accommodation in a selection of hotels. Groups of ten people or more are offered 5% discounts. According to National Express marketing support manager Bryan Bannister, the programme is totally flexible, with passengers able to travel from anywhere on the nationwide network, travel whenever they like and for however long they want.

To help launch the new programme, National Express will have one of its coaches beside its stand and visitors will be encouraged to climb aboard. Bannister said it was important the trade saw first hand what a modern coach looked like.

He added:”Non-coach users or those whose experience of coach travel dates back many years often have an inappropriate perception of modern day coach travel.

The reality always takes people by surprise and that’s largely why we decided to promote our services using a coach, so we can dispel negative perceptions.”

Also available from the stand will be the ‘London Shortbreaks’ and ‘Airport Stopovers’ broch- ures as well as the 1999 ‘Days Out’ programme, which will be officially launched at the show.

The programme features inclusive travel and entrance packages to top tourist attractions including Madame Tussauds and Leeds Castle. New for 1999 are the FA Premier League Hall of Fame and the National Centre for Popular Music, both in Sheffield.
