Half-marathon warm-up finds favour with new recruit

AFTERmuch bribery, Travel Weekly’s deputy news editor Beverley Fearis has been stupid enough to agree to run the London Marathon with the Family Holiday Association Dream Team.

She was forced to step in after senior reporter Steve Jones decided that a QE2 cruise was far more appealing. Oh no, we forgot – he’s got a knee injury.

Beverley foolishly accepted the challenge two days before running in the Brighton and Hove half-marathon (2hrs 4mins), along with news editor Liz Bird (2hrs 9mins) and deputy features editor Sam Lewis (1hr 55mins).

After the race – when she had realised how much pain was involved in running just half the distance – she tried to retract her application, but it was too late.

Hobbling around the office the following day, Beverley simply said:”If Liz can do it, I can do it.”

Dream Team colleagues also taking part in the run were unofficial team captain Kevin Hall from Thrifty Car Rental, who came in at 2hrs 11mins, and Geoff Saltmarsh from the Saltmarsh Partnership, who strolled in at 2hrs 36mins.

n The Family Holiday Association is seeking sponsorship for a boat moored along the Thames at which the friends and relatives of the FHADream Team can watch the marathon live.

FHA’s Andy Grout said: “The boat is moored at a private pier so there is a great branding opportunity for banners. There will also be a big screen that will show live coverage of the race, and a bar and food.”

Potential sponsors will also have the pleasure of meeting up with some very sweaty, fatigued, and hopefully elated, colleagues. So who can resist?
