Systems make first transactions for 2000


GALILEO and Amadeus global distribution systems have both successfully made transactions for fares in 2000.



For Galileo, Albury Flight Centre in New South Wales, Australia, processed the first millennial transaction, seat assignment and ticket at 3.29am GMT on January 4.



A spokeswoman said: “The reservation was booked and ticketed quickly and smoothly.



“Our customer departed Melbourne on January 6 and has planned a one-year working holiday in Europe. Her return travel will take her from London to Hong Kong on January 1, 2000 and Hong Kong to Melbourne on January 2, 2000. We have no problems at all with any part of the booking.”



Amadeus issued its first 2000 booking on January 5. Among the first to be completed was a ticket for a New Dehli to New York flight via Frankfurt on January 2, 2000.



So far, 18 carriers have delivered 2000 inventories to Galileo, all from the the Far East, and the GDS supplier expects the bulk of airlines to give their inventories for the millenium by February 4.



n The four leading GDSs have completed transactions in the euro since the launch of the currency on January 1.



Worldspan issued 149 tickets in euros around Europe between January 1 and 12 while Amadeus issued 2,352 tickets in euros globally between January 1 to 13.



Galileo saw 75 purchases made in the currency on its first day of trading on January 4, while Sabre had made 43 European bookings in euros by January 10.
