Airline looks at buying new aircraft for long-haul routes

BRYMON Airways is considering jet aircraft to give it the equipment to launch longer distance flights.

General manager commercial Mike Coombes said 50-seater options were under review to come into Brymon’s fleet in summer 2000.

Coombes said both the Canadair Regional Jet and the Embraer 145 are being looked at to run alongside Brymon’s current turboprop-only fleet.

They will give it the option to serve Scandinavian, Italian and German cities from UK regions. The British Airways owned subsidiary currently has 15 Bombardier Dash 8-300 aircraft and two Dash-7s. The Dash 8 fleet was enhanced last year with the addition of eight quieter versions.

As Bombardier also makes the CRJ jet, this is likely to influence Brymon’s order. “We have talked to Bombardier in terms of jet and turboprops,” said Coombes. The airline is also investigating a potential order for the 74-seat Dash 8-400 to allow it to increase capacity on busy routes.
