Thomson Breakaway develops rural option

THOMSON Breakaway has launched a short-breaks brochure featuring properties in towns and rural locations to sit alongside its existing Cities programme.

Managing director Steve Garley said it was introducing a separate programme because it did not want to follow other operators by including non-city locations in its cities brochure.

“When you look at our competitors’ cities programmes, they claim to have 100-plus locations but when you look inside some of them are towns and countryside locations. I don’t think this is a very sensible way to go,” he said.

The short-breaks programme offers more than 200 properties, from family-run rural retreats to deluxe resort hotels, in 20 destinations across nine countries.

One-third of the breaks are in France and another third are in Italy, with the rest split between the seven othercountries.

Prices lead in at ú89 per person for two nights’ bed-and-breakfast, plus ferry or Eurotunnel tickets, at Les Hirondelles, St Lo, near the Normandy coast.
