Teesside looks to reach 1m visitor mark

Teesside International Airport is hoping new scheduled destinations will help it break through the 1m-passenger barrier within two years.

Marketing manager Kate O’Hara said Paris, Brussels and destinations in Germany were high on Teesside’s list of potential new services, to boost its current 680,000 passenger numbers.

She said the airport was hopeful two undisclosed mainland European cities would be added to the airport’s portfolio this summer. The airport already serves Amsterdam and Dublin, but there is demand for more business routes.

The daily Ryanair flight to Dublin has already put 70,000 passengers through the airport since its launch in November 1997.

An extra marketing executive is being recruited, to help promote the airport’s services to the 450 agents in its area.
