Better Heathrow rail access promised with new Elizabeth Line timetable

Improved rail access to Heathrow will be provided from next month when a new timetable for the  Elizabeth Line across London is introduced.

More frequent services to and from Heathrow have been promised by Transport for London (TfL) as part of the timetable from May 21.

Services will run all day between Shenfield in Essex and Heathrow Terminal 5 for the first time.

The airport overall will receive six Elizabeth Line trains an hour all day. All Heathrow trains stop at Terminal 2 and 3, with four an hour continuing to Terminal 4, and two an hour continuing to Terminal 5.

Heathrow has also improved signage at the airport, which should make it clearer for travellers, particularly those visiting London or using the Elizabeth Line for the first time, according to TfL.

Two trains an hour providing direct connectivity between Essex, east London and west London will run with the start of the full peak timetable for the 73-mile railway line.

The new schedule is being introduced three days before the one year anniversary of the delayed opening of the £18.8 billion line which also serves southeast London and Reading in the west.

TfL estimates more than 140 million customer journeys have taken place so far, with around 600,000 journeys now being made each weekday.

London transport commissioners Andy Lord said: “With this new timetable, those travelling through central London will have a train arriving around every two and a half minutes, those using Heathrow airport will have more regular services, and time will be shaved off many journeys from Reading, Heathrow and into central London.

“Those on the east will also benefit from twice hourly services to the airport, linking Essex and west London on the line for the first time.”
