Consumer travel confidence returns to ‘old normal’ – Jet2

Customer confidence about travelling abroad is at its highest point since the start of the pandemic, according to Jet2 and Jet2holidays research.

Seven in 10 respondents to a weekly survey about travel say they feel confident about booking and travelling on holidays with international returning to normal and Covid travel restrictions ending.

The figure was as low as three in 10 in January 2021, when travel curbs were in full force.

Just one in 10 (10%) say they do not feel confident about travelling, compared to January 2021 when this was figure was as high as 50%.

Chief executive Steve Heapy said: “It is two years since the onset of the pandemic and international travel is looking like it did before everything changed.

“This return to normality has had an enormous impact on customer confidence with holidaymakers jumping at the chance to get away.

“We have always said that things should return to the ‘old normal’ when the time was right, rather than trying to maintain a ‘new normal’ and it is great to see that this has happened.

“We are approaching the time of year when our operation ramps up significantly, and we are looking forward to an extremely busy and successful 2022.”

The heightened confidence is continuing to translate into strong demand across all seasons, the data shows.

Jet2 and its sister tour operation claim “strong and sustained” demand to destinations such as Greece, Turkey, mainland Spain, Canary Islands, Balearics, Malta and Portugal.

Jet2holidays is continuing to offer £50 discounts per person on package holidays booked via an independent travel agent, including summer 2023.
