Delta schedules largest transatlantic network for summer 2024

Delta Air Lines is returning to Shannon in Ireland with flights from New York JFK next summer.

Last operated prior to the pandemic in 2019, the west of Ireland gateway joins the US carrier’s existing services to Dublin from May 23, 2024, in addition to a new route between the Irish capital and Minneapolis-Saint Paul.

Delta will compete directly with Aer Lingus as the Irish carrier reinstates flights to Minneapolis, which were dropped in 2020, from April 29 next year.

The additional capacity to Ireland forms part of the airline’s largest transatlantic schedule for summer 2024, including new routes from JFK to Naples and Munich.

Atlanta gains four flights a week to Zurich from May 31, adding to nearly 180 weekly flights to 21 destinations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East from Delta’s hometown hub.

Frequency from Atlanta to Paris and Venice is also being increased.

Additional flights are also scheduled to Paris from Cincinnati and Detroit; to Barcelona from JFK; to Reykjavik from Detroit; and to Athens from Boston.

Meanwhile, the airline is extending a new route from Los Angeles to Auckland in New Zealand starting on October 28 to a year-round service, operating daily from November to March and three times a week from April to October.

Sydney will be served twice-daily from the US west coast hub from December and flights resume to Shanghai four times a week from March 31, 2024 following winter service to the Chinese city from Seattle and Detroit.

Delta serves 13 international cities from Los Angeles, including London, Paris and Tokyo.

Senior vice president network planning, Joe Esposito, said: “There’s never been a better time to explore Europe on Delta, and customers looking ahead to summer adventures abroad will find plenty of inspiring options – coupled with the premium services and amenities we know Delta customers anticipate and enjoy.”
