A warning of weekend travel disruption due to heavy snow has been issued by the Met Office following a storm and flooding across parts of the country on New Year’s Day.
The yellow warning of snow from 12 noon on January 4 until 9am on January 6 covers much of the UK, from southwest England and Wales to southern Scotland.
The alert covers a key travel period as people prepare to return to work following the festive break.
The Met Office said: “Heavy snow may cause some disruption over the weekend.
“There is a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel
“There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off
“There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.”
Many New Year’s celebrations in Scotland and the north of England were cancelled due to strong winds and heavy rain.
A major incident was declared in Greater Manchester on January 1 due to flooding.
