Jet2.com and Jet2holidays celebrate inaugural flight to Girona from Glasgow

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays are operating their first flight to Girona from Glasgow this weekend.

The flight to the Costa Brava, Spain, which departs on Sunday, May 28, means the airline and operator are offering a total of 30 sun and city destinations from the Scottish city this summer.

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays chief executive Steve Heapy said: “Since putting services on sale to Girona from Glasgow airport, local customers and independent travel agents have been booking getaways to the stunning hotspot in their numbers.”

The weekly Sunday flight will run until September 24.

Heapy said: “Feedback from customers and independent travel agents in Scotland has been telling us that flights and holidays to Girona are very much in demand for summer ‘23, and we know that this is a destination that customers want to get to.”

Glasgow airport’s head of airline relations and marketing, Christopher Tibbett, said he was “really pleased” Girona was returning as a destination from the airport.

He said: “Costa Brava is a stunning part of Catalonia and this latest service announcement from Jet2.com and Jet2holidays will be welcome news for Scottish travellers looking to explore the wider region or make the short trip to the beautiful city of Barcelona.”

Miquel Noguer, president of Girona Provincial Council and Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, said: “It is very good news for the interests of our territory to recover the connection with Glasgow airport, as the United Kingdom is a very important market for our tourist destinations.

“The Costa Brava is ready to welcome Scottish customers and to show them the diversity and quality of our tourism offer through cultural, food and wine experiences and nature activities in combination with the sun and beach offer, that is so highly valued.”

Meanwhile, low-cost Icelandic carrier Play operated its inaugural flight from Glasgow on Friday, May 26, with an Airbus A320 departing for Keflavík at 11.55am.

Play’s first Scottish service will run up to four times a week in the summer and autumn this year. The winter will see up to two flights a week.

The airline is offering flights from Glasgow to four North American destinations – New York Stewart, Washington Dules, Boston Logan and Baltimore Washington – with a two-hour layover in Keflavík.

Flights to Toronto’s John C. Munroe Hamilton will start on June 23.
