MAG airports start new year handling almost 4m passengers

Stansted and Manchester airports both achieved a record January, with passenger totals equalling 101% of equivalent pre-pandemic 2019 levels.

Airports under the MAG umbrella started the new year with overall numbers up 9% year-on-year to reach 3.9 million.

Passengers using Stansted rose by 6.9% to 1.9 million while Manchester saw a 9.5% rise over January 2023 to 1.8 million.

East Midlands airport saw monthly traffic increase by 30% year-on-year, with 177,000 passengers – equal to 82% of 2019 levels.

All passengers passed through security in 15 minutes or less at both Manchester and East Midlands airports, with the figure 99% at London Stansted.

The figures coincided with Heathrow reporting a 9% rise in January passenger levels to six million.
