Tui Airways drops mask mandate

Tui Airways is no longer requiring passenger wear face masks on flights to and from England and Northern Ireland.

The operator’s in-house airline confirmed that face masks will no longer be a legal requirement from today (Friday) from the two parts of the UK – two years to the day since Covid was confirmed as a pandemic .

The relaxation of the rule follows Jet2 dropping the requirement on some flights and Iata chief Willie Walsh calling for an end of the mask mandate.

Confirming the change, Tui Airways said: “However. in line with UK government and EU Charter guidance, we strongly recommend that you still wear a mask throughout your flight.

“Under current guidance, it is still mandatory for customers aged 12 and above travelling on Tui Airways to/from Wales and Scotland to wear a mask throughout their flight unless medically exempt.

“It’s important to note that you may still be required to wear a mask when leaving the aircraft and once inside the airport at your arrival destination.”

The airline pointed out that it is mandatory for passengers aged two and above travelling to the US on its flights to wear a mask throughout.

It is also mandatory for those aged six and over flying to Italy to wear an FFP2 mask throughout flights, according to the carrier.
