Consumers take more care when organising holidays

Consumers have made longstanding changes in the ways they organise their holidays, according to Abta research about post-pandemic travel trends.

The 2022 ABTA Holiday Habits Report was revealed at the Travel Convention in Marrakesh on Tuesday (October 11), ahead of the opening of the annual event.

The research, carried out among 2,000 people, found that many are now taking steps to help them feel protected, such as taking out insurance policy or booking with an Abta member.

The report said: “Not being able to travel during the pandemic crystallised the importance of holidays for many people.

“Holidaymakers are also indicating that their experiences during the pandemic will lead to longstanding changes in how they organise their travel, with many taking steps to help them feel protected, such as taking out a good travel insurance policy or booking with an Abta member.”

When asked about how not being able to travel during the pandemic has changed the way people view and plan their holidays, 71% said they will always make sure they have a good travel insurance policy.

Almost two-thirds (63%) said they will pay more attention to the terms and conditions of what they are booking, while a similar proportion (61%) said they will make sure to book with an Abta member.

Furthermore, 58% said they will be more selective about the companies with which they book.

And half said they now appreciate how important being able to travel is, and they intend to go on more holidays.

The survey questions were asked during August 16-30.

This year’s convention is the first to be hosted overseas since 2019 and the first in Morocco since 2005.
