Explore appoints new head of sustainability

Adventure tour operator Explore has appointed a new head of sustainability following the departure of Prue Stone.

Hannah Methven (pictured), has been promoted from her position in Explore’s Responsible Business Forum, where she has has helped colleagues to drive sustainability initiatives and implement changes  overseas and in the UK for the past five years.

Stone has left Explore to take up the group-wide head of sustainability position at parent company, Hotelplan UK.

She will oversee the sustainability strategies at InnTravel, Inghams, Santa’s Lapland and Explore.

Methven, who has worked with Explore for more than 10 years, said she was “hugely passionate about making changes” to the company’s working environment.

She said: “With 10 years’ experience in building and overseeing our tour programme, I’m very close to sustainability developments on our trips.

“But I’m also hugely passionate about making changes to our office environment. We have some excellent strategies already in place, we now need to activate those initiatives and continue to develop them further. Involving travel agents, tour leaders, and all the teams at Explore will be crucial to achieving our sustainability goals.”

The next steps for Methven and the Responsible Business team at Explore will be recruiting a rewilding partner to help  company’s carbon reduction strategy.

Methven is currently studying for a masters degree in sustainable tourism management.
