Major Travel adds pilgrimage tours to Saudi Arabia

Trade-only operator and consolidator Major Travel has added Umrah pilgrimage touring packages to its tailor-made portfolio.

The new ‘Umrah Plus’ pilgrimage tours for Muslims travelling to Mecca (pictured) or Medina in Saudi Arabia have been introduced in response to growing demand for “bespoke travel experiences”.

The packages enable agents to combine a pilgrimage tour with other travel experiences for their clients, such as a tropical extension in Langkawi or Bali, or a Cape Town city break with a halal gastronomy theme, followed by a safari in a nearby game reserve.

The operator said its “close working relationship” with the Saudi Tourism Authority also enables packages to include the chance to explore other sites across Saudi Arabia, such as AlUla, Abha, Taif, Najran, and the new Red Sea islands of Titan and Sanafir, in addition to traditional pilgrimage sites.

Furthermore, the new packages include meet-and-greet services on arrival, transfers, local reps, and access to attractions.

Rute Magalhaes, head of commercial at Major Travel, said: “We’re thrilled to offer these new pilgrimage tours and continue delivering on our commitment to providing bespoke experiences for agents.”

An Umrah and Mauritius package featuring four nights in Mecca, three nights in Medina and seven nights on the island of Mauritius starts at £1,700, including flights.

An Umrah and Cape Town package that combines four nights in Mecca and three nights in Medina with a four-night stay in Cape Town leads in at £1,800, including flights.

The packages can be secured with a deposit of £75.
