Abta LifeLine announces 2025 G Trek for Good

Abta LIfeLine is to run its next charity trek in co-operation with G Adventures to the Inca city of Choquequirao in Peru next year.

The 2025 G Trek for Good plans to take a group of 30 volunteers from the travel industry to the lesser known and harder to reach Inca city in a challenging five-day hike through forests, canyons and mountain passes to raise money for the charity.

“They will be treated to stunning scenery which will make it all worth it,” said Abta LIfeLIne director Trudie Clements, who said the 2024 trek raised more than £30,000.

“This has been life-changing for many of the families helped. It’s helped people pay their bills, for household items or put food on the table.”

The charity announced the news at Abta’s Travel Convention, where it raised £17,000 to help people in need across the industry.

Clements highlighted the case of a Tui travel agent called Clare whose son fell from a balcony in Tenerife and sustained severe injuries including broken legs, back, pelvis and ribs.

The charity helped Clare with the costs of the hotel for an extended stay in Tenerife, food and support to get her son home to the UK, where he is undergoing a long term recovery.

Clements said the fundraising at the convention would help not just Clare but any others in need in the sector.

“It’s for anyone that is struggling right now, whether it’s an unimaginable situation, accident or injury or a sick child or money needed for school uniforms,” she said. “We are here to support where we can in the best way we can.”

She added: “We are delighted with how everyone has got behind this at the Abta convention to support others who might be struggling.”

Barrhead Travel was among those to support the charity, with a £1,000 donation.
