Intrepid Travel hits all-time high B Corp score

Intrepid Travel has achieved its all-time high B Corp score of 102.5 in its second recertification.

The renewed score, up from 91.2 in 2021, acknowledges the improvements the operator has made.

The B Corp score is in recognition of continuous improvement in areas of social and environmental impact.

These include progressing global employment equity, diversifying the supply chain, doubling community investment and educating and empowering customers, according to the company.

Only 20% of B Corps with more than 1,000 employees have secured a score of over 100, putting Intrepid among leading B Corp businesses globally.

The new score puts Intrepid among well-established B Corps such as Ben & Jerry’s (96), Natura & Co (101) and Patagonia (166).

B Corps are required to recertify every three years, providing evidence and measuring their environmental and social impacts across the five areas of governance, workers, community, customers, and the environment.

Chief people and purpose officer Meegan Marshall said: “As other companies are pulling back from their DEI and ESG commitments, Intrepid is doubling down on our efforts and deepening our commitment to inclusive growth, where purpose and profit go hand in hand.

“As the world continues to grapple with geopolitical instability, the climate crisis and deepening social inequalities, now is the time for businesses to reaffirm their commitments to a more inclusive and equitable and regenerative economy that benefits all stakeholders.

“When Intrepid certified as a B Corp in 2018, only 19 certified companies were in the tourism sector. Today, that number is almost 200. We hope to build on this momentum and continue to use business as a force for good.”

Chief executive James Thornton said: “This is testament to improvements we’ve made in key areas of our business, including governance, social and environmental impact.

“Purpose has always been in our DNA, but by being a B Corp, we’ve made a commitment to balance purpose and profit. This means making continuous improvements across all different parts of our business and holding ourselves accountable through transparent reporting.”
