Thomas Cook Airlines new Balearics offshoot is to fly for the first time on Saturday.
The Majorca-based carrier was granted an air operators’ certificate yesterday following months of preparatory work.
The new airline will start operations with five Airbus A320s during summer 2018.
The aircraft will initially take over short and medium-haul flights for Thomas Cook’s German airline Condor to replace third party aircraft leases.
The granting of the new AOC follows the recent AOC gained for Thomas Cook Aviation based in Germany following the collapse of Air Berlin.
The start-up Balearics carrier is part of Thomas Cook Group Airlines’ growth plans, providing a new base in its most popular destination where it can provide flights to support other in-house airlines, according to seasonal demand.
Chief airline officer Christoph Debus said: “The new AOC for Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics is an important step for our whole group airline.
“In the highly competitive short and medium haul market we will gain an advantage with greater operational flexibility at a competitive cost.
“At the same point we can increase our customer experience by maintaining closer control over the quality and product on board.”
