Etihad Airways named most desirable carrier in poll

Etihad Airways has emerged as the airline most people want to fly, with Kazakhstan airline Air Astana the least favoured.

Gulf carriers dominate with Qatar Airways second and Emirates fourth below Lufthansa.

British Airways is in eighth place above Virgin Atlantic at 17th position.

Other airlines in the top ten are All Nippon Airways, JetBlue, Hawaiian Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Garuda.

Tui Airways is among the least desirable carriers, ranked in 84th position out of 91 in the list but above Malaysia Airlines, Azerbaijan Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, SriLanka Airlines, Aeroflot and Air Malta.

The findings come from an online poll among 24,000 participants from 68 countries aged between 17 and 78 who claimed to have flown at least once during the past two years.

The study by German design and branding firm GraphicSprings examined how people feel about airlines they may have never flown on by just by looking at the logo and name.

The goal of the questions was to understand the impact marketing, reputation of the airline and the country of origin may have on the desirability people may have to fly in it.

“Among the findings a clear it was found that the Gulf airlines have an edge when it comes to branding, credibility, and desirability,” a company spokesman said.

“Another interesting result is how the country of origin has an effect in desirability to fly or not in an airline.”
