Loganair Orkney flight bookings go online

Bookings for Loganair’s Orkney inter-island lifeline services can now be made online after 51 years of operations.

Reservations were previously only available over the telephone or in person.

Passengers can now use the Scottish airline’s website to book flights between seven islands which are part of the archipelago of Orkney – including the world’s shortest flight.

Loganair provides air links connecting Kirkwall with North Ronaldsay, Sanday, Stronsay, Eday, Westray and Papa Westray, with fares starting at £7.25.

The network includes the world’s shortest scheduled air service between Westray and Papa Westray – timetabled to last two minutes but officially holding the record at 47 seconds.

This means customers can now book flights 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.

The lifeline services are operated under a Public Services Obligation contract awarded by Orkney Islands Council.

Loganair has provided the service since it began in 1967 and was awarded a new four-year contract in a competitive tender against two rivals last year, with the new contract set to run until 2021.

Managing director Jonathan Hinkles said: “Our Orkney Inter-Isles operation is a vital service for the people of Orkney and one that we are proud to provide.’

“To the best of our knowledge, the individual legs between the seven islands are some of the shortest which can be booked online with any airline.’

“Over 50 years after starting the service, we’re delighted to bring these flights to the Loganair website. It is our hope that this will offer our passengers even greater ease when travelling between Orkney’s islands.”
