Global reveals Mexico for 2020 conference

The Global Travel Group will hold its conference next May near the Mexican resort of Cancun.

About 300 people are expected to attend the four-night event, which will be held at Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa from May 7.

The news was announced at the Global Rocks event in Cheshire by Andy Stark, chief executive of Global Travel Group, and Cherie Richards, commercial director.

Stark said the agenda, themes and speaker line-up would be shaped by feedback from members.

It was input from the members at last November’s Orlando conference which led to the choice of Mexico, as it is an increasingly popular destination, he added.

About 160-170 agents are expected at the Mexican conference, along with about 50 suppliers, and pre- and post-conference trips will be available.

The Global Rocks events are designed to be held midway between the main conferences, to offer members the chance to network with other agents and suppliers.

“Last year was the first Global Rocks and it was a fantastic success,” said Stark.

“Our consortium has a family feel; it’s a community, and members love networking in this social environment.

“We also do lots of informal get-togethers, with small clusters of agents.

“It is the same ethos, having a good time, giving back to the suppliers, and meeting formally and informally.

“Events are important for members and for us to show our appreciation to suppliers.”

A total of 175 agents attended the Global Rocks event on July 4 in Carden Park Hotel near Chester.

The event featured fairground rides and entertainers, including a Dolly Parton tribute singer.
