WTM 2019: Hotel QE2 to offer fam trips in 2020

Agents will have the opportunity to stay on floating hotel Queen Elizabeth 2 when its owners launch a new fam trip programme in 2020.

The historic vessel, docked permanently in Dubai port Mina Rashid, opened as a 224-room hotel in April 2018.

Nearly 20 rooms are being refurbished and signature restaurant, the Queen’s Grill, is being redesigned as a British bistro-style restaurant.

A conference centre, spa and gym have all been added to the hotel over the last 19 months.

The hotel’s UK trade representative Ian Scott Marketing will finalise the fam trip programme details in the coming weeks.

The programme will comprise of more than 10 fam trips with varied itineraries, some of which will feature an overnight stay on QE2.

“The UK is a key market for us,” said QE2’s director of marketing Katie King. “We will be initiating our own fam trips where QE2 will be the main focus of the fam trip or part of it.”

King urged agents to register their interest by emailing sales@qe2.com or Ian Scott Marketing directly.

The hotel has benefitted from cruise passengers arriving into Dubai at the cruise terminal, King added.

Since QE2 docked permanently in Dubai last year, Cunard sister ship Queen Mary 2 has made three calls to the city.

In January, QM2 will dock alongside QE2 in Dubai for the fourth time. Up to 500 Cunard passengers on QM2 will be invited to “experience” QE2, King said.

Currently, guests primarily opt to stay on QE2 throughout the weekend, but King hopes to encourage more people to stay during the week and also consider holding events on board.

Asked about sales performance since the QE2 opened, King said: “We have enjoyed healthy occupancy levels. We have had a great start.”
