Hays Travel claims record January

The retail arm of Hays Travel is claiming a record January with trading figures for the month at an all time high.

Although figures were not disclosed by the chain of 43 agencies, demand was up by 17% over January last year.

Business increased from December 27 onwards and was not affected by last month’s bad weather.

“Although the snow did affect some isolated villages, staff and customers were not deterred; volume took a slight dip, but demand continued,” Hays said.

The second successive year of TV advertising as part of a strong marketing campaign helped boost business together with the launch of Hays Travel’s Faraway programme.

“Figures for long haul holidays have increased, as has the footfall for a higher spend clientele wanting affordable luxury holidays to long haul destinations,” the company said.

Retail and training director Jane Schumm said: “It has been a great month. I visited most of our shops in January and was delighted with the commitment our staff continue to show and the exceptional service they give customers.

“The launch of our Faraway product last year is really starting to see volumes in our shops now, and we have had huge success with our Dubai offer advertised on TV.”
