Airports group targets SMEs at ‘runway to recovery’ session

How small and medium sized businesses could become suppliers to Manchester Airports Group (MAG) will be outlined at a virtual ‘road to recovery’ event next week.

The managing sirectors of MAG’s airports – Manchester, Stansted and East Midlands – will provide an overview of their respective businesses, alongside information from the group’s procurement team about the process of becoming a supplier, and available opportunities.

Businesses from across the airports’ surrounding areas in the north-west, east Midlands and east of England can sign up to the free event on December 8 to learn more about their local airport and the business opportunities they provide.

MAG spends more than £780 million a year working with hundreds of partners and suppliers at each of its airports, which collectively handled more than 60 million passengers in pre-pandemic 2019.

The airports group previously hosted a meet the buyer event at Stansted for a number of years.

The scheme has now been expanded across the group to promote the creation of local supply chains which support local businesses.

MAG CSR and airspace change director Neil Robinson said: “Our ‘runway to recovery’ meet the buyer event will provide SMEs from the areas local to all three of our airports with the opportunity to get a unique insight into how they could do business with us.

“By hearing from our airport managing directors and our procurement teams, businesses can see how their product or service could contribute to our supply chains which help our airports run seven days a week, 365 days a year.”
